What is entry of appearance?

Entry of appearance is a legal term used to describe a formal notification made by a lawyer or an attorney to a court that they will now be representing a party in a litigation case. This is usually done by submitting a written document called a Notice of Appearance to the court clerk. The entry of appearance confirms that the lawyer is now the legal representative of their client and has the authority to act on their behalf in all court proceedings. It also ensures that the court will send all relevant documents and updates about the case directly to the attorney. The entry of appearance must be made promptly after the attorney accepts representation otherwise, the court may assume that the party does not have legal representation and may proceed without notice to them.
